Free Video Online First Aid Course for Every School Child Site Now Live

5 May 2012 in Classroom Training, First Aid, Instructor, Online Training

Help us spread the word, we have a free video first aid course for every school child. We need to get the word out to schools and clubs to sign up for free. See www.studentfirstaid.co.uk and like our Facebook page at Facebook.com/studentfirstaid Schools can sign up and choose online only or we can offer a practical session as well. First aid is a very important skill for all children to learn and completing an online course will expand first aid into schools. If a practical module is needed then we will contact our instructors to complete this part.

It works by the school registering and they get a school dashboard like our instructor or company dashboards. They can either opt for 100% online or blended, which creates a code which starts “SCH” and that relates to a school or class so when entered on the home page the child gets access free to the course.

This is an excellent chance to expand first aid awareness and we welcome anyone who wants to be part of the project. If you know any schools or clubs who want to register ask them to register here or email their details to us.  Please email any ideas to support@protrainings.eu, this is not a normal course that you can set up from your dashboard. If everyone helps to get this free course in to their local schools and clubs it will help the project become a success. Thank you.

HSE Removal of Direct Approval

4 May 2012 in Classroom Training, First Aid, Instructor

There is a lot of information being sent out in relation to the HSE and First Aid at Work.  We have been aware for sometime of the HSE’s intention to cease monitoring and approving First Aid at Work related courses (FAW and EFAW). We have not to date sent out information regarding this matter because nothing has been decided and no formal decisions or information has been sent out to us as an HSE centre by the HSE.

The one fact that is true is that the HSE are stopping direct approval of first aid in the workplace as a result of the Lofthouse report.  This will not affect any of our instructors or centres as a credible certificate will still be required by businesses and our courses will always comply.  The HSE will set out the course material that we at ProTrainings use to then issue the certificates, similar to the way our other certificates work.  Nothing is going to change immediately and there is no need to panic. We have been working on changes for sometime and this is one reason why we made all our courses CPD Certified recently to ensure you have desirable and recognised qualifications for all your courses.

One other thing that seems to be happening is that the onus will be on the employers to ensure that any course they put their staff on is certified and run through a credible organisation (like us) or Ofqual QCF (through us).  We are prepared if these courses do take the Ofqual QCF route or to give you a choice on the type of certificate you want to provide to your customers. Unlike other organisations, our certificates can be validated online so employers can prove they are genuine, we will continue to meet all the guidelines for courses when released.

Remember no decision about the future of First Aid at Work courses has been made yet and we will continue to provide you and your customers with benefits such as free CPD Certified certificate to download, free manuals and downloads, refresher reminders, free advertising for your courses, free online booking, weekly emails and you will still earn on commissions etc.

We are watching this very closely and will let you know when something is decided and the likely date will possibly be as soon as October 2012 but more likely from what we hear April 2013. We will make sure that everything is ready well in plenty of time for the changes.

What does the HSE say about Auto-Injector use?

12 April 2012 in First Aid, Instructor

The HSE state on their website “The use of an Epipen to treat anaphylactic shock is an example of an exemption from the restriction imposed by the medicines legislation. Therefore, first-aiders may administer an Epipen if they are dealing with a life-threatening emergency involving a casualty who has been prescribed and is in possession of an Epipen, and where the first-aider is trained to use it.”

RIDDOR’s over-three-day injury reporting requirement has changed (and updated PowerPoints)

6 April 2012 in Classroom Training, Featured Articles, Fire Safety, First Aid, Health & Safety, Instructor, Online Training

As of 6 April 2012, RIDDOR’s over-three-day injury reporting requirement has changed. The trigger point has increased from over three days’ to over seven days’ incapacitation (not counting the day on which the accident happened).

Incapacitation means that the worker is absent or is unable to do work that they would reasonably be expected to do as part of their normal work.

Employers and others with responsibilities under RIDDOR must still keep a record of all over-three day-injuries – if the employer has to keep an accident book, then this record will be enough.

The deadline by which the over-seven-day injury must be reported has also increased to fifteen days from the day of the accident.  New leaflet available at http://www.hse.gov.uk/pubns/indg453.pdf and updated PowerPoints on the dashboard.

CPD Certified on our online and some classroom courses

23 March 2012 in Classroom Training, Featured Articles, Fire Safety, First Aid, Health & Safety, Instructor, Online Training, Pet First Aid

All our online courses are now CPD Certified and some of our classroom ones as well.  We have submitted the rest of the courses and will advise when they are approved.  This will mean that the courses can be used against CPD requirements which will expand markets.

Now the very serious bit, do not use the CPD certified logo on any of your material as the copyright for the logo is protected by the CPD Certification Service.  It will shortly appear on our certificates and websites for the courses that they have approved already.   More information to follow on CPD and the rules.
